The Swanswell Initiative is a 10-15 year regeneration programme and aims to expand the northern sector of the city centre and regenerate one of the city’s most disadvantaged areas. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity to create transformational and sustainable change.
The Swanswell Initiative has aimed to provide 2,000 new homes, 1-2m square foot of office space, up to 7m square foot of development, 7,000 jobs, a new city centre health centre, a new city centre sports centre, new Learning Quarter and will transform the local environment. The relocation of City College from three sites across the city to one site in the Swanswell Initiative is complete, a planning application for a new £20m a new city centre health facility has been submitted, and proposals for a new £28 Academy school and £2m Extended Learning Centre have recently been approved by the Council.
Local people, partners and stakeholders have been involved from the very start and developed together the ten priorities for the Initiative.
